Hello Summer Tan

How to keep your tan for longer

No matter whether we’re in the garden, on the patio or on the balcony – the sun makes us happy. Because sunlight stimulates the production of the happy hormone, serotonin. It relieves feelings of fear, it’s important for healthy bones, and it has a positive influence on our sleep rhythm. In short: the sun is good for us. But, as with everything else – you can have too much of a good thing. Overexposure to the sun is enormously stressful for our biggest organ – the skin.

How does our skin tan?

A tan is produced by the colour pigment, melanin. It is produced under the skin when UV rays come into contact with skin cells. Sunlight contains UV-B, UV-A and UV-C rays, and it’s the UV-B rays that are responsible for melanin production. The UV-A rays make the melanin react with blood oxygen and this is what produces the classic summer tan. UV-C rays don’t reach our skin at all as they are completely filtered away by the atmosphere.

How can I keep my tan for
as long as possible?

#1 Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

If you want to keep your summer tan for as long as possible, you need to give your skin enough moisture. By regularly moisturising, the natural skin renewal process is slowed down and you’ll stay deliciously brown for longer.

FRESH after sun & tan booster
Tanning care
125 ml

FRESH after sun & tan booster is a soothing moisturiser used after sunbathing that extends your tan thanks to an extract of Porphyridium purpureum alga. The cream is quickly absorbed and gives you a pleasant skin feel. FRESH after sun & tan booster can also be used all year round as a gently tanning, light body milk.

#2 Take a warm shower

Taking long, hot showers dries your skin out and also changes its pH balance. As a result, you lose pigmentation quickly and your skin gets paler. Does that sound like you’re washing off your tan? Yes, it does, but of course that’s not the case. Hot showers dry your skin out so that the tanned skin cells are shed more quickly and the new, untanned skin underneath is revealed. That’s why it’s better to take a shower in lukewarm water. And if you want to give your circulation a boost, we recommend taking a cold shower and then switching to warm water.

FRESH soap
Soap
100 g

Sun cream residue and sweat are particularly easy to wash off with FRESH soap or FRESH body wash. Our hand-scooped FRESH soap produces a grooming and cleansing foam. Black cumin oil has a harmonising effect and improves the quality of the skin by firming up its structure. Oils help to keep moisture in the skin by forming a protective layer. This strengthens the skin barrier, ensuring that less water can evaporate. Aloe vera fresh plant juice provides moisturisation. Almond oil restores lipids and gives the skin an optimal supply of vitamins. Another tip: after showering, don’t rub your sun-kissed skin hard with a towel – just pat it gently to dry it.

#3 Gentle exfoliation

It’s not entirely clear whether exfoliation really does help to extend a tan. What we do know is that it’s better to exfoliate before you sunbathe because your skin will then be perfectly prepared for even tanning. Rougher areas of skin such as the elbows, heels and hands should be given special attention. Because by removing dead skin beforehand, the sun’s rays can penetrate your skin particles more easily. We recommend that you avoid exfoliating immediately after sunbathing because this will further irritate your skin.

FRESH scrub face & body
